What vitamin and supplement tend has peeked our curiosity lately?
While the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the supplement industry dramatically shifting consumers vitamin consumption.
A lot of the shift has been towards supplements that support immunity and stress.
The immunity and vitamin D ship in my opinion has already sailed.
But there are other trends and areas of opportunity in the growing vitamin and supplement market.
One of the vitamin and supplement tends I’m seeing is in the vegan space.
Whether you are vegan, transitioning to a vegan diet, veg-curious, or looking to add more plant-based meals into your diet this market is poised to grow.
Interest in veganism has hit an all-time high in 2020, according to a global trends report.
Increasing awareness about the benefits of following vegan or plant-based diet is the key factor responsible for the growth of this market.
And it’s not just food.
Searches for “vegan sneakers” have nearly doubled over the last five years.
Vegan sneakers and other products like it are made without animal-based materials.
Thousand Fell and Tropicfeel are just some of the direct-to-consumer vegan sneaker brands that have popped up.
The opportunities for a Vegan supplement brand to partner with non-supplement vegan products is expanding.
An opportunity to cross-promote via email lists is only one obvious thing that comes to mind.
What’s Next for This Vitamin and Supplement Trend?
This trend is really much bigger than vitamins and supplements.
It’s all part of the “veganification” meta-trend that’s happening right now.
In the United States alone, 9.7 million Americans consider themselves vegan or vegetarian.
Approximately 4% of them are millennials.
And around 33% of Canadians having turned into flexitarians. A flexitarian is a person who has a primarily vegetarian diet but occasionally eats meat or fish.
The demand for all-vegan products are on the rise.
Beyond shoes, other popular vegan products include, mushroom jerky, oat milk, and vegan collagen to name a few.
A meatless diet can be healthy, but vegetarians and especially vegans need to make sure they’re getting enough vitamin B12, calcium, iron, and zinc.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics warns of the risk of vitamin B12 deficiencies in vegetarians and vegans.
Vitamin B12 is found naturally only in animal products.
