Marketing a nutritional supplement product these days requires quite a bit of digital know how and a keen eye on the numbers.
The digital “know how” part is a requirement these days. More and more people are turning to the web not only to research their conditions but also to learn about health products and alternatives. In addition to research, these savvy searchers are also finding and buying their vitamins and nutritional supplements online.
And many people are not looking for a good deal, but rather a good product that meets their specific condition as part of their personally prescribed treatment plan. And there’s no reason why they shouldn’t if they are well informed and experts on their issues. All of which has been possible because of the web.
As a marketer, I hope you’ve including the Internet as part of your digital strategy to sell more supplements online and maximize the behavior of your market.
But beware…
Internet Marketing for Supplements is a very precise numbers game. You need to know the cost of a sale in order to effectively put together an online campaign. Else you could just be driving expensive traffic to your site that does not convert into a sale. Do that long enough and you’ll be sunk.
Because everything online is so trackable however it’s never been easier to figure this out. The key to successfully maximizing your nutritional health supplement marketing budget is to adjust over time to dial into profitability.
A key component of this is split testing or A/B Testing.
Essentially you split your traffic to go to two or more distinct pages. Each page is slightly different, anything from a different headline to a different image or the test page can be radically different. Anything from completely different sales copy all the way to a completely different layout or even a video sales letter in stead of text.
The beauty of splitting your traffic like this is that you let your visitors vote with their wallets as to which version sells best. In essence you’re optimizing your conversions and sales by testing different things and learning what works, which is vital to leveraging even more sales.
Due largely to the continuous nature of testing. It’s not something you just do once. Firstly because you’re likely not to get it right the first time and secondly because what you learn in one test can be applied to your next test to get a compounded improvement effect.
This approach is not for everyone. You need a level of traffic to make it worth while and to test fairly quickly.
Bobby Hewitt form Creative Thirst, a conversion rate optimization agency focusing on the health and wellness market recommends at least 20,000 visitors a month to truly get the most benefit from an optimization program.
Although you can still make some serious gains in increasing conversion rates even with a little bit of traffic, say 3,000 visits a month.
However, perhaps the main hurdle is getting over ones ego and testing things and more importantly being comfortable with winning pages that may not be exactly what you or your CEO likes. It’s not always the best looking pages that sell the most. In the end A/B testing really removes the subjectivity of design and puts your marketing in the customer centric camp. Leveraging the collective knowledge of your visitors and letting them ultimately decide what sells.
Once you implement a marketing optimization program, you’re well on your way to maximizing every dollar spent on selling rather than just simply getting more eye balls to your web page or offer. You’ll be focusing on getting more of the existing visitors to convert and buy rather than just hoping they buy.
